ARMOURS AND PHONE CASES

It just occurred to me that I haven't had a phone case or a screen protector for about 4 months now. I didn't even notice.

I believe nothing bad can possibly happen but the problem is I'm very clumsy. If you ask my mom, she'll tell you I'm the number one culprit when it comes to breaking plates. It's funny how I have the tendency to drop things but magically believe that my phone will not be kissing the floor anytime soon.

That's the behavior of a lot of us christians. Our human environment predisposes us to a lot of things that are not Christ-like. We have tendencies that our faith strongly opposes yet we don't put on our armor to avoid falling. We have the tendency to be influenced by bad friends yet we surround ourselves with such people and magically believe we won't become like them.

We watch all the X-rated movies we can find and we think lust will not rear it's ugly head. In short we have put no boundaries in place but expect to turn out fine. We have left our armour somewhere and are walking freely at the mercy of our flesh and circumstances.

In Ephesians 6:13, we are admonished to put on the whole armour of God. The armour can be likened to the screen protector and the phone case. They serve a barrier that repels and sometimes attacks anything that tries to harm you.

From verse 14, we are given "a whole armour" with which we may be able to withstand in the evil day.

Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God – Ephesians 6:14-17.

To be able to stand firm, know the truth (which is Christ) and be saved, be a signpost of righteousness actively spreading the good news with a solid faith. Unlike other people who have an armory of swords and guns, we have an armory of articles of our faith. Though invisible they are more powerful than any material weapon imaginable.

This happened to David when he was set to face Goliath. King Saul offered him his (King Saul's armor) but David declined to use it.

Then Saul clothed David with his armor. He put a helmet of bronze on his head and clothed him with a coat of mail, and David strapped his sword over his armor. And he tried in vain to go, for he had not tested them. Then David said to Saul, “I cannot go with these, for I have not tested them.” So David put them off. Then he took his staff in his hand and chose five smooth stones from the brook and put them in his shepherd's pouch. His sling was in his hand, and he approached the Philistine.- 1Samuel 17:38-40

Some people might attribute David's victory over Goliath to His experience as a shepherd or the stones he used but we know for a fact that the only reason he won was the power of God at work in him. He had not tested a physical armor but he knew of an armor that would never fail Him- the armor of God.

Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. - 1 Samuel 17: 45

David's faith was more powerful than any armor Saul ever had.

As a Christian, we are soldiers in the battlefield of life. Invisible darts of doubts, fear and temptations are flying all over. It is not enough to wish that any bad thing does not happen to us, it is expedient to stay armored up and suited up so that when opposition arises we will be able to stand firm. It is detrimental to stay unprotected for any period of time.

As a note to self, I will stay armored up at all times. I might be doing well without a phone case but I know for a fact that I will not survive the "evil day" the Bible warns us about without my spiritual armor(Eph. 6:13).

Let's stay armored, friends.
