BRIDESMAIDS

BRIDESMAID: a woman who is an attendant of a bride.

Sometime ago I was the bridesmaid for one of my sisters. I was chill about it until the day before the wedding. I started getting scenarios in my head of all the bad things that can happen.

What if I trip and fall?

What if I don’t hold the microphone properly and it falls?

“Wait a minute!! What is all this?”; I said to myself

“Why am I nervous, its not even my wedding”

This was the game changer. I had peace when I realized that this wasn’t about me, this was about my sister. It was her day; it would be understandable if she felt nervous. My job is to help her throughout the whole process. My job is to lessen her burden not to add to it. The spotlight will be on her not me.

I know people go to weddings to look at the bridesmaids but nobody keeps his/her attention on them. They came to see the bride and the groom.

It’s all about her gown, the vows, her make-up, her smile

Once in a while they’ll make a comment about how good her maids looked.

This applies to our Christian walk too.

There are times when you feel unqualified for whatever God has called you to do.

‘I don’t sing well enough’

‘I am not a good public speaker’

‘I don’t have the right words’

‘I’m not smart enough’

I hope you realize today that it’s not about you, it’s about God. Let Him worry about the outcome, just do your job. If God chose you to do something, then He trusts that you can do it.

Truth is, we will trip and fall, we will not always the right words, we will be embarrassed in this journey of faith. But that’s all part of the learning process.

At other times we are carried away by the whole packaging that comes with serving God that we actually make it about us. We forget who employed us and start making it look like we are self-reliant.

This is not to say that we should not invest in improving ourselves. We should rather shift our attention from ourselves to Him. We should worry less about how people will perceive us and more about what God will say of us. When we choose to improve ourselves, it is because our Father’s work deserves the very best of skill and talent.

Another side of this conversation is if the maid of honor does not do her work well, people will talk. At the end of the day, it’s the bride who suffers.

If we do not do our jobs well as Christians, Christ is not glorified, no one is edified.

It’s not about you, it’s about God.

Stop letting fear and anxiety rob you of doing God’s will.

Stop letting the opinions of others prevent you from doing what God wants you to do.

Reckless abandon (without care or regard for consequences of an action) is a necessary requirement for people who serve the Lord.

Long story short, the ceremony happened successfully with no hitches by God’s grace. And I believe very few people remember the details from that day.

Byee. Have an amazing weekend.
