REBOOT

A church I know of has an annual camp meeting called ‘reboot camp’. I didn’t find the name particularly interesting until recently. So what exactly does it mean to reboot?

Reboot- the act or instance of shutting down and restarting something (such as a computer or program).

Ending one year and starting another has different emotional implications for different people. Excitement for a fresh start, anxiety about what lies ahead, indifference and even sadness about lost opportunities the year before.

These reasons whether positive or negative are good enough for one to take some time to cool off before starting a new year.

"And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.” - Mark 2:22

Just as we fill new wineskins with new wine and old wineskins with old wine, you can only reboot (start afresh) when you shut down (throw away the old stuff).

How do I shut down?

1. Rest, Pause, Take a break

Giving your body and your mind some rest from all the drama of daily life is a good way to shut down. Even God rested. Not because He was tired but because He had finished what He wanted to do.

Sleeping is a good start. Taking a break from social media and screen time helps you to feel more relaxed and focused on what matters.

2. An attitude of gratitude

No matter how bad the year might have been for you, you’re still here to tell the story and that’s something to be grateful for. We usually focus on the ‘big’ blessings that we forget the ‘small’ ones.

A safe journey from home to school or work almost every day

The gift of family

The gift of life

The gift of food- good food.

The gift of laughter

The gift of energy

We need to consciously remember all those times of the year when God showed up for us.

How do I restart?

1. Pray

Yeah, it had to be in here somewhere. I am a firm believer that the Holy Spirit creates the best vision boards and new year resolutions.

Pray in the spirit, pray in your understanding and you will be surprised at the amount of revelation God can give you. Pray and watch rivers of living water flow out of your belly

2. Write them down

Write down the things God is telling you. It can be an idea that just drops into your mind, it can be a burning desire or feeling. It can also be a dream. The goal is to write them down because your mind cannot remember everything. During the prayer you can begin to decree some things from the depths of your spirit, it is advisable to have a recorder by your side to record these prophetic declarations and instructions.

3. Meditate on them

Chew the instructions and declarations like your life depends on them because it does. Let what you heard become a part of you through meditation. Nothing can shift your focus if what God has told you has become real to you.

4. Put in practical steps to achieve them.

Create a structure to make the downloaded instructions easier to execute. Set a time, set alarms, buy books, join a community, seek an accountability partner etc.

Put in a structure that will always remind you of what the Lord has told you to do. Draw a roadmap from where you are to where you want to be. It’s very possible to start losing momentum by June next year because the excitement of the assignment has worn off, but if you have built a system of doing something consistently and other people are holding you accountable, it becomes difficult to quit.

Do you know what’s intriguing about this whole rebooting process?

It’s the fact that rebooting is something you’ll have to keep doing throughout the new year. It’s not limited to only year ends, it's something you have to do when you feel that your sense of focus is being clouded either by work, media or life issues.

now is the time to reboot!

We’ve come this far, we’ve tried. Thank you for reading and supporting this website, I'm deeply grateful. Take one hot bofrot on your way out.

Lift your head, walk like you know what lies ahead and go be great. 2023 awaits you.

Merry Christmas and happy new year!!!
