GBEMI 2- EPISODE 1: LESSONS I LEARNT

Updated: Feb 11, 2022

Heyyyy guys!!!!!

Today I’m sharing lessons I learnt from the movie Gbemi 2 episode 1 by Mount Zion film productions. Grab your popcorn, relax and enjoy.

Gbemi is movie about trusting and waiting on God. This follows Gbemi and John's waiting period and their journey to parenthood. The movie is filled with humor to get you laughing and lessons to make you reflect.

For those who have not watched it, I highly recommend you watch it to better understand this review. Let’s get right into it…

1. Marriage is not for children.

It is for the mature. It is for people who are ready to put in the work to make it work. In all thy getting get wisdom, in all thy getting build capacity. Don’t put someone’s son or daughter into trouble.

2. Sisters!(and brothers) build your faith.

In a society that makes childless women feel less like women, Gbemi is such a good example of someone who really trusts God. She was not swayed by society's timing. When her husband was complaining, she was comforting him with Scripture. I believed her condition bothered her, but her sheer reliance on God’s timing is very admirable.

If physical news gets you more excited than spiritual news then you are walking by sight and not by faith – Gbemi

The waiting room is not exactly easy but instead of getting yourself worked up, make it a point to trust God else the devil will bring alternatives that you’ll forever regret – Gbemi.

In situations like this, it’s usually the woman who feels pressured, the role reversal was quite a surprise to me. She’s a huge inspiration to girls. Following God to the ‘T’ is not a male thing, it is for all of God’s children. The days when men were the only ones actively engaging in spiritual activities is long over. God is recruiting women too.

3. Some coincidences are not orchestrated by God, the devil is also strategic.

Gbemi’s boss’s wife (Tara) meeting with Chucks was seemingly coincidental but it was actually a strategic plan to ruin her life. Not all open doors are from God. Be discerning.

4. Set boundaries!!

Bro John and Sister Bukky’s relationship is a good example of how we shouldn’t allow just anyone into our private space. As Christians and people in ministry especially we must have boundaries and rules which govern our interaction with others especially those of the opposite sex.

Bro John is someone I would describe as “too trusting to be careless”. Our gifts are meant to be shared but for the sake of your consecration guard your space and filter people who have direct and influential access on you. I think it’s a very important lesson for singles too and not just for married people.

Be discerning, be sensitive, not everyone is supposed to be your friend. Entertaining someone regardless of the obvious red flags is playing with the devil.

5. Have friends who can tell you the truth.

John had good friends who gave him good advice but I struggled with how they had to come up with all sorts of creative ways in order to tell him the truth because of his pride. We must surround ourselves with people who can tell us the truth to our faces without sugar-coating it. And we must be humble enough to accept rebuke and corrections.

Make sure your pride is not smelling. If it is, you need to dry it in the sun, let it reduce😂.

6. Parents sacrifice a lot for their kids.

The fact that Tara was staying in that marriage for the sake of her daughter is very heartbreaking. It just goes to show the number of things parents are willing to endure for the happiness of their children. Despite their differences, both wanted the best for their daughter.

Please let me know your lessons and take-home message in the comments so that we can all glean😊.

See you on Monday for lessons I learnt from episode 2.
