I wish preachers would spend more time preaching the Word than telling us their experiences. This is a slippery one because I think many of them genuinely have good intentions and are just trying to make sure that whatever point they're making is practical to their audience. But you'll look back at a 2 hour sermon and there's one solid hour of “when we were in school”, “there was one time”, “I remember”. Then it begs to ask, is this a personal story telling session or a place to hear the Word of God. I mean this could pass for a TED talk.

Churchtime is divided into times of worship, prayer, study, preaching, testimony etc. The sermon time is a time when the scriptures are rightly divided. Personal stories are invited during testimony time with the intent of giving people an opportunity to publicly thank God and to encourage and strengthen the faith of other believers.

During sermon time, the focus is God. I love me some good Word sprinkled here and there with some good personal stories but the keyword is “here and there” not every time you open your mouth.

Because like I said early on, I truly believe the Lord can impress a story on the heart of the preacher to share.

The goal is to make it about Him and less about us or the things we have accomplished. Let's make it about the One because of whom we are gathered.

This is the main reason why I changed this blog's description.

The description for the blog when I started was “God's prophetic voice to the new generation”. (The description is on the homepage below the blog icon).

Yes yes, spirococo much. This was something I felt strongly after much prayer and thought.

I used it for about three years until my content started evolving. To be honest, my content has never been single niched. I used to do book reviews, love and relationships stuff etc. It just started becoming more obvious to me during the 3 year mark that I wanted to talk more about things that weren't directly related to faith.

The goal of this blog has always been to serve as a safe space to young christians.

I felt the description used initially was weighty and did not allow room for experimentation or self discovery. If this is God's prophetic voice, then stop talking about your experiences and tell me what God is saying 🤷.

It showed that everything I wrote should be treated as something right out of God's mouth.

As much as I try to be God-honoring in my writing, it would be a huge crime to put such expectations on my own random thoughts.

I was telling a lot of personal stories and didn't want people who were looking for the Bread of Life to think this was all there was to Him. To base His vastness on my little life experiences and not on the Bible. His existence does not revolve around what I go through.

And so I changed it.

I changed it to “sharing the gospel through the Word and personal stories”.

The goal is still the same; to draw people closer to God. But a little heads up, I might come a lot of times and talk about something I learnt at work, a thought that has been taking up space in my mind, a book that I found educative or even a person that I found worthy of emulation (biblical or otherwise). With caution and respect for the One who gave me this platform. And you are welcome to share your thoughts, questions, and misgivings with me.

It truly has been one of the honours of my life to share my gift here. One that I intend to steward much better from today. On that note, join me for the next 31 on a daily posting “thingy”.  I'll be here with a blog post everyday (God be my help). On some days, this space would be a testimony time, other days it would feel like you're listening to a sermon and sometimes you would feel like you are among co-workers debating a policy change or sitting across the table from a friend talking about their boring little life. And that is all part of the potpourri that is this blog.

Thank you for reading this far. See you tomorrow 🤗.
